Guidance for food businesses undertaking a rapid shut-down in response to coronavirus (COVID-19)
New guidance from the FSA has been published. It is intended for all food businesses to help them safely undertake a rapid shut-down in response to a coronavirus outbreak at their workplace.
Updated guidance has been produced to assist Food Business Operators when a coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak in the workplace results in a requirement to cease operations. It compliments existing food hygiene guidance and government advice for food businesses on prevention and management of COVID-19. If there is more than one case of COVID-19 associated with your workplace, you should contact your local Public Health Protection Team in England , Wales or the HSC Public Health Agency in Northern Ireland to report the suspected outbreak. You should also keep in contact with your local authority to update them on the status of the suspected outbreak. It maybe that you will need to carry out a rapid shut down of your business to prevent spread of the virus. There has been some recent press coverage of shutdowns at a number of food manufacturers with large numbers of staff testing positive for Covid19. Look out for our next 'News Update' on how to safely return a symptomatic worker after a SARS-CoV-2 Test.
The guidance is intended for all food businesses including takeaways, restaurants, hotels, food retailers, food manufacturers, meat plants, farming and agriculture. Guidance from the Food Standards Agency for hospitality businesses focuses on areas like managing stock safety, consumables, plant and machinery, waste collection, caretaking operations during shutdown, staff communications and training. The guidance can be found on the link below.
